AFC DUNSTABLE LADIES BLUES FC

14th September 2014
Crawley Green Ladies FC v AFC DUNSTABLE LADIES BLUES FC
AFC Dunstable Ladies Blues started their 2014/2015 season against a physical Crawley Green Ladies side.
With very little preparation in the sense of pre season training and Rebecca Lightfoot stepping up to perform in a very unfamiliar role in goal, Dunstable Blues started the first half with 10 players.
The Blues battled hard throughout the game to resist the opposition. Great strength and determination was shown from the defence which featured Emma Wells out of her favoured position at left back, Lauren Swinnerton and Beth Cusack at centre back and Shannon Planson playing right back.
On the wings, we welcomed newcomer Laura Mimer for her first ever competitive game on the right and Georgie Liscio resumed her usual role on the left, with the middle featuring Sophie Mason and Amy Giddins who all combined well to support CJ Wakefield as the lone striker.
Half time saw some changes where we saw the arrival of captain Charlie Peters to boost the team to a full 11 and she and Wells moved into the middle of the park in place of Giddins and Mason. The change saw some good link up play between Wells and Peters who worked well together to break up the Crawley defence.
As the clock ticked both sides looked to clinch a winner but fell short and the Blues finished the game with a well deserved first point of the season.
