AFC DUNSTABLE BLUES FC V Hertford Town Ladies FC

In contrast to the previous week Dunstable faced unbeaten league leaders Hertford Town with only 10 available players.

The starting line up featured Kirsty Scott in goal, Rebecca Lightfoot, Jade Walker, Sophie Mason and Lauren Swinnerton in defence. Captain Charlie Peters sitting in front of the defence supporting Carly Orme, Laura Mimer and Georgie Liscio in midfield, with Emma Wells as the lone attacker.

Within minutes Hertford were taking advantage of the player deficit and the slightly smaller grass pitch and had scored from long range. Realising that the team were going to need to accomodate a more defencive style of play, Wells demonstrated her versatility and moved into defence. She had a strong performance in this role and on one occasion cleared the ball from the goal line when it seemed Scott had been beaten.

Carly Orme once again was a key player for the Blues and, despite the drastic scoreline, tirelessly ran for the full 90 minutes and deservingly received the player of the match vote from her team mates.

The one goal for the home team came from the left foot of Charlie Peters, who received the ball from the opposition and took the opportunity to kick the ball first time over the head of the Hertford keeper giving her no chance.

Another frustrating defeat for the Blues, but the team when they were in possession, united well and demonstrated some promising displays. After a cup game next week, the Blues have a 5 week break before their next scheduled league fixture so as player availabilty increases and with some hard work and consistency in training the Blues can develop on their potential and start converting some positive results.
