AFC DUNSTABLE LADIES BLUES FC v Crawley Green Ladies FC
In a bottom of the table clash the Blues came up against local rivals Crawley Green Ladies, who were looking to secure 3 points to regain their position one place ahead of us.
After a delayed kick off due to no referee being present and a players partner standing in despite no whistle or linesmen, Dunstable got off to a great start and dominated the beginning of the first half. 11 players available saw Kirsty Scott in goal, in defence Beth Cusack, Shannon Planson, Becca Lightfoot and Amy Giddins who made a welcome return back from injury. Midfield featured Charlie Peters, Sophie Mason, Emma Wells, Claire Kenna and Carly Orme and up front was CJ Wakefield.
A great corner from Emma Wells saw the ball land at the feet of Sophie Mason following a goal mouth scramble who delightedly knocked it past the keeper making it 1-0 to the home side. The second came not long after when Charlie Peters played the ball to Emma Wells on the wing, who cut in to the 18 yard box and saw her shot bounce off the post and trickle along the line before just rolling over it.
Sadly the lead was shortlived and Crawley managed to level the score line by half time.
The second half saw plenty of opportunites but the ladies were unable to convert these. There were some good moments of football and Wells, Peters and Wakefield all stood out with their persistence. Frustratingly the game was handed to Crawley who scored a further 2 goals to secure the win although Wakefield came close in the final seconds to scoring with a painful deflection off her face.
Player of the match deservingly went to Sophie Mason as voted by her team mates who excelled in her position of centre midfield.
